Helsinki Challenge is a science based competition and idea accelerator organized by the University of Helsinki to create innovations and offer science-based solutions to global grand challenges. The first ever Helsinki Challenge celebrates the University’s 375th anniversary in 2015. Participating teams are evaluated by the jury using the following criteria: originality, creativity, impact, focus on solutions and use of science based methods. A prize of 375,000 euros will be awarded to the best in November 2015. Helsinki Challenge is looking for solutions relating to five main themes: environmental change, health and wellbeing, future learning, global Helsinki and new world view. Participants have been encouraged to partner up with different actors outside academia who specialize in using and spreading information or applying it commercially. The competition goal is not only to create new scientific information, but to have an impact on society. ==Semifinal 2015== Out of 80 proposals, a list of 20 semifinalists was announced in December 2014. Teams’ competition ideas range from developing tools to analyze big data on the Finnish discussion forum Suomi24 to studying our expectations of robot morality.
